Aye aye. It's still breathtaking, despite the minor vagueness. I half expected 'em to walk out into a jungle or swamp or sommat.

Its simple story is its greatest flaw. I had to sacrifice alot due to time constraints... so while im sure there is a subtle message (in my head)... its visually very straight forward. :)

I figured that at least for the time being, i would upload my MFA Thesis film for you folks. I was looking into film festivals and such (and still am), and found them to be to expensive and time consuming at the moment.

But i want people to see the film, so here you go.

This is the result of 3 years of tedious work and generous help. Hope you enjoy it.

Feel free to link to it and share it, but PLEASE do not sell it. Its mine, and only I do the selling around here. ;)

I'm an animation student myself, and am aware of the excruciating pain of giving birth to a short film like this.
Yet, I feel some sincere input could be given, I hope you can take it as reflexive, not pejorative.
I don't get the storyline. Until the verbal explanation by the hologram about the imminent collision, I had no clue of what was going on, apart from "this is a robot world".
The characters then proceed to the solution with no conflicts, obstacles, motivation nor tension. I'm not into cliché and won't ask for a super villain, a helpless maiden, etc., but the concepts mentioned in the previous phrase are fundamental elements for a narrative to become intelligible. I can also mention some takes which add no meaning to the overall plot, and lack of takes that do it, be it by conventions or other semantic structures.
Could you tell more about the creative process used to produce this? Was the plot actually important, or the short has a more technical experimentation nature?

Nevertheless, the animation has a nice looking and the characters, though simple, are able to get the public sympathy, just needing a little more help from the story events to do it.

No man, i always appreciate good critique! You are absolutely right. The major shortfall is the story. Originally, there was much more to the story, stretching the film out another 2-3 minutes or so. But as this film was to fullfill a school requirement and i only had so long to complete it, i ran into time crunch problem... essentially. (It was my fault for going to big to begin with)

I then was left with a decision to make. Do I keep the complete story and risk having to turn in an unfinished film? Do I come up with a new shorter story that might work, but once again risk running out of time trying to work through all of pre-production again? OR Do i cut up my current story into a straight forward, no twists kind of fim and just get it done?

Whether right or wrong i chose the last, because i honestly was running out of time and would rather have a finished piece. So I decided that if i was going to sacrifice the story, i should focus on making everything else good. So it became more of a technical piece in the end.

However, i am in total agreement with you. I REALLY wish the story was better. Since i finished it for a deadline and got that requirement filled, a large part of me is now considering going back in now and reworking it and possibly finishing it. Im now no longer bound to any constraints, so it is a possibility. LOL! though whether i do finish it or a learn from it and improve on the next film, i DO know i need a break for a few months. But thanks for the insight! Good stuff!

Oh, always nice to talk with people ok with critiques.
Yeah, deadlines are the terrible scary giant running to get us. If it wasn't for it, maybe half of the worldwide animations wouldn't be produced. Even so, it bites off a lot of content. The price we pay for dealing with time. xD
Haven't I watched you yet? WTF, now I am. Have your deserved rest, and get back animated! We'll be waiting. :D

@03:57Slightly strange, but I quite liked it. Was there a hidden meaning or anything to that effect?

LOL! i DID write about a 20 page paper on what the film could mean... drawing from that, I suppose if there IS a hidden meaning, its a question of motivation and of doing what you need to do vs what you want to do.

LOL! I know i that may not help... honestly, given more time, i would have went with a clearer story. But alas, sacrifices were made. :)

@03:54okay..I love this film. It's so very simple yet it still entertained me and kept me wondering till the very end. There were some...awkward pauses...but other then that very well composed.
